If you hear sound but see no video, the stream has reached at least part of the playback path. Start by checking whether the player’s menus remain visible. A black video area inside a working interface is different from a television showing no signal at all.
Compare another item
Play a second channel or on-demand title in the same app. If only one item loses its picture, record its exact name and the time or playback position. If every item behaves the same way, note whether another video application on the device can display a picture.
Check the display path
For an external streaming box, confirm that the correct TV input is selected and that menus are visible through the same cable path. If a receiver or soundbar sits between the player and screen, a direct connection can be a useful comparison where practical. Record the original arrangement before changing it.
Avoid random decoder changes
Some players expose hardware or software decoding options, but their effect depends on the device and media. If support recommends testing one, record the original choice and compare the same item. Restore settings that do not help. A full reset should not be the first response to one black video frame.
Your checklist
- Check whether menus are visible.
- Compare a second video item.
- Report whether the problem follows the content or display path.
What to take away
Sound is useful evidence. Include it in the report instead of describing the problem only as “not working,” and separate a black video area from a missing TV signal.
